How You can Benefit from just 30 Minutes of alone time in The Morning

The sun is shining through the window and it softly kisses your cheek to say “good morning”. Then your three year old barges in to your room, jumps on you, and demands for his favourite cereal. The morning rush is one of the most painful experiences for me with my three children. Two of my boys have ADHD. I’m constantly telling them to get ready, to remember XY and Z. In that short period of time in the mornings, I am screaming, rushing, and completely exhausted by the end of it. I found that having just 30 minutes a day before my kids get up has helped me with these obstacles. Many entrepreneurs talk about the importance of an early morning and how it has helped them be successful and grow as a person and in business.

Your daily routine can consist of many things. I would suggest having the following in yours. A 10-15 mins quick workout. I use YouTube or a workout app to give me some ideas. Most days I’ll do workouts I love, but I change them every now and then so I don’t get bored. A time for positive affirmations or meditation, or even prayer. You can do this while drinking a tea or coffee. What you want is just dedicated time to reflect, be grateful, and bring in positive vibes. If you have time after, please journal your thoughts. This is a great way to get a lot of your feelings out and then reflect afterwards. When you journal, it frees up your brain and helps you reflect on your journey. That’s it! You can change things up on however it looks for you. Some days you may get all 30 minutes. Other days you may get less, but the trick here to do it everyday so it becomes habit.

Positive Affirmations for Moms

You deserved to be praised and celebrated. Here are some positive affirmations to start your day:

  • You are loved

  • You are amazing

  • You make things happen

  • You are where you need to be

  • You are unshakeable

  • You are unstoppable

  • You are beautiful

  • You are show stopping

  • You are brave

  • You get sh*t done

  • You are capable

  • You are enough

  • You have it within yourself to be great

  • You are resourceful

  • It’s a new day

  • It’s a good day

  • It’s the first day to your new life

Research shows it takes about 21 days for a habit establish. That means that intentionally waking up earlier and working on yourself will take 21 days before it’s just muscle memory. This will seem hard at first but after those 21 days, it’ll just be part of your routine everyday. Now it won’t look the same everyday but allowing yourself to have this time will make your days so much more productive.

How 30 minutes (to myself) has helped me:

  1. Feel accomplished and productive

  2. My mental clarity is strong which means that my mental health is strong

  3. Since part of my routine requires me to workout 10-15 mins, if I miss an intestinal workout at the gym that day, I would have already did a mini one earlier and I feel less guilty.

  4. I feel grateful and well rested at the end of my routine

  5. I am happier and more confident to take on whatever comes my way throughout the day

“Intentionally starting your day will give you mental clarity because you’re not actively rushing. It gives you a head start to start your day“

How to keep morning routines even if the kids get up early?

  • PUT ON THE TV or tablet (it’s only 30 minutes)

  • Have headphones on while you are having your coffee with positive affirmations

  • Cut your work from 15mins-10 mins with no breaks

  • Have coffee or tea, whatever works for you, and just sit by a window or read a personal development book until your coffee is done (I like to put my headphones on for this and listen to calming music)

  • Keep a journal and brain dump your tasks and thoughts (5 minutes only)

  • Wash your face with cold water. Really feel the water hit your face. Cold water shocks your body a bit and wakes you up.

  • Don’t start your day checking emails or social media. Your 30 minutes routine is just for you.

  • Keep a note for what is working and not working and improve this routine

  • Be flexible on how this looks and let go when days aren’t perfect
