Mompreneur Highlight: Embrace Surrogacy

Darcy Herring from Embrace Surrogacy

Let’s welcome our first Mompreneur Hightlight: Embrace Surrogracy. I met Darcy at a networking event and I was immediately drawn to her easy, maternal energy. She was calm, smiling, and easy to speak to. I may be biased here but anything that has to do with babies, I’m all for! During our time together we have had some wonderful conversations and I connected with her on so many levels. I love when other mothers are so passionate about their experiences that they just want to share that with other women! Darcy is a kind, and warm person and I hope through this blog you learn a bit more about surrogacy and about her business.

I have a backstory that I want to share. A few years ago I was approached by a wealthy single man and was asked to carry a baby for him. This is a family friend and I was all for giving birth, even if it was for someone else. Being pregnant was one of the greatest joys of my life. I loved the look of my body while pregnant and I loved feeling the babies move inside me (for the most part!). At the end of it, I wasn’t a good candidate because of health reasons but nonetheless, the surrogacy journey is one that I appreciate.

When I meet mompreneurs, I like to ask if I can do an interview on them. All mompreneurs inspire me and I believe there’s alot to learn from eachother. I was interested in learning more about Darcy and Embrace Surrogacy, so I know you will be to. Here’s our questions and how she answered:

1.What is your business and why did you start it? Embrace Surrogacy starts because of a conversation from a parent. "Why don't we start a business together".  From her experience as an intended parent and myself as a surrogate, there were things we wanted to improve upon.

2.Where is your office located, what does it look like? We work from home, one in Pickering, and one in Mississauga. Darcy's office is purple with inspirational quotes and has Lego that my son built. I have a bookshelf with personal development books and fun books like romance..

3.Do you have a morning and or night routine that helps you stay motivated? Yes, in the morning, every morning, I write a gratitude paragraph since October 2023. It sets the tone of my day and what I am grateful for.

4.What three tips would you give a mom just starting out in business?  1. Make sure to carve out time for you that is not business or mom related. Reading is my favourite thing. Have an advent calendar for books. 2. Schedule your day. List important things to get done. 3. Have an end time when you turn off. 5:00pm is my time.

5.What is your biggest fear in business and your greatest dream? Greatest dream is to reshape the surrogate industry to be more known, more supportive, and more positive. My biggest fear is not being able to fulfill the commitment in the time set out..

6.How old are your children? 14,16 both boys

7.What lessons do you teach them about business? That's it's ok to take a day off. Sometimes business has to take priority over family and it's important to go for your dreams even if it is hard.

8 .How many hours do you dedicate to your business? 30-40 hours a week

9.What is your biggest struggle right now? Reaching our target audience: reaching potential surrogates.

10.Tell us something you're proud of. I am proud of being a surrogate.

11.If there’s a task you would like to get rid of, what would it be?  Cleaning my bathroom.

There you have it! I had so much fun meeting Darcy and I can’t wait to showcase our next mompreneur. If you’d like to be featured on our blog, be sure to email me at tasks@todaysmom.online.
